Volkswagen has unveiled a new limited edition version of their T5 Transporter van, in view of the coming summer. It is called the VW California Black Edition, although it is only available in Germany.

Based off VW’s Comfortline trim package, the 2009 T5 California Black Edition features a unique monotone exterior with darkened tail lights, black 18-inch alloy wheels, HID headlights and extra chrome trim. It is powered by a 130 hp TDI diesel engine.

The interior also receives a number of special touches including leather and Alcantara upholstery, tri-zone climate control, parking sensors with a rear view camera and GPS navigation. Of course, the real deal-maker is the van’s electrically operated pop-up roof that converts it into a highrise motorhome.

The California Black Edition will be priced at the equivalent of $110,000 in Germany which, even after considering higher vehicle prices and taxes, is an insane proposition.
