In a country that has more sheep than people, Mitsubishi in New Zealand is offering a free goat with every Triton pickup sold before August this year, in an apparent effort at “correcting the economy.”

A Mitsubishi New Zealand mouthpiece claims that the Kiwi economy’s recovery was in the hands of the rural sector, and goats are hardy, versatile units which will integrate directly into existing farm operations, just like the Triton truck. “We are aware that three years of drought has severely depleted sheep and beef populations, so what better time to float the goat?”

If a buyer refuses the goat offer, Mitsubishi will instead offer a package that includes a five-year extended warranty, five free government inspections, five years of roadside assistance and $500 of accessories, among other free stuff. We’d have to weigh in the price of a goat to figure out which is the better package. After all, it might provide free milk.
