According to Pickuptrucks.com [1], Chrysler is planning to replace the already-solid 383 hp 5.7L Hemi V8 with a larger engine for the next-generation Dodge Ram heavy-duty pickup. An all-new 6.4L Hemi V8 is on its way by 2011, assuming the company as well as the Ram survives. According to inside sources, it will have as much as 450 hp or even 500 hp.
The 6.4L V8 is said to be based on Chrysler’s current SRT8 6.1L Hemi V8, but with a larger bore and longer stroke optimized for use in three-quarter-ton and one-ton truck applications instead. Apparently the engine is already being tested on the road in Ram Heavy-Duty prototypes.
