2009 Dodge Ram recall over faulty HVAC software

The NHTSA has ordered ailing Chrysler to recall 37,407 Dodge Ram 2009-model-year trucks to repair faulty software that controls the manual temperature controls. The recall does not affect models equipped with the digital dual-zone temp controller.

According to the NHTSA, the system’s faulty programming can render defrosting and defogging functions inoperable, which could hamper visibility and lead to an accident. The recall begins next month, and dealers will reprogram the module at no cost. However, it is odd that a manual HVAC system even requires complicated software.

Back in late March, Dodge also recalled about 72,000 brand new Ram pickups over a windshield-wiper motor defect.
