2009 BMW X5 and X6 NHTSA safety recall

bmw-x6
BMW is recalling all of their X5 and X6 vehicles, all from model-year 2009. Apparently the rear brake discs may not have been manufactured according to specifications. As a result, a reduction in braking performance at the affected rear wheel could occur.

According to the NHTSA, the affected rear brake disc could break in an extreme case, resulting in a loss of braking at that wheel while increasing stopping distances and the risk of a crash.

BMW itself has not yet provided the NHTSA with a remedy or notification schedule. But owners of the affected models may still contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117 for updates.
